Zouk Tokyo sits within Granbell Hotel Ginza’s new commercial complex, the latest luxury hospitality launch from Granbell Hotel Group. Every Granbell Hotel, from those in the frenetic Tokyo districts of Shinjuku and Shibuya to the calm coasts of Colombo in Sri Lanka, is known for its elegant aesthetics, exceptional service and memorable day-to-night vibe.

As the first Japanese entry from the Singaporean premier nightlife brand Zouk Group, Zouk Tokyo proudly showcases what Zouk is known worldwide for – premium nightlife entertainment.

A World-Class Installation For A World-Class Tokyo District

Spanning two basement floors, Zouk Tokyo has a gorgeous lounge space, premium bar and ample VIP seating, while the floor beneath contains the impressive dance hall and stage with spacious 9m high ceilings, bar and VIP rooms. Altogether, the chic space offers a 600m2 capacity capable of holding 1,000 people.

Due to advanced architectural design and technology, Zouk Tokyo’s construction is a marvel. The black and gold interior design contrasts with a distinct lack of pillars, the sprawling atrium, and a giant 5m wide lighting system called the Mothership, custom-built by a specialist lighting team in Barcelona, Spain.

This state-of-the-art, world-class installation further enhanced by the Void Acoustics sound system, albeit completely unbeknown to nearby Ginza residents and other businesses, thanks to the incredible soundproofing in place.

This incredible audio installation comes from eastaudio, a Tokyo Sound System Laboratory member, a premier sound system production team responsible for many of Japan’s famous nightclubs.

Eastaudio and Void Showcase Excellence Together

A decade of industry experience has been poured into the multi-year project, as Satoru Tocci Tochibori explains: “Years of planning have gone into Zouk Tokyo, and we were asked to accommodate a variety of function types from the hotel group such as nightlife, corporate events and live shows.

Tocci continued: “This meant carefully blending sound across multiple environments, tight spaces, unusual angles and a desire for the Void system to subtly match the overall look and feel of Zouk Tokyo. We paid particular attention to balancing the sound pressure and power within the main floor and the rest of the corridors. We’re really proud of the outcome.

Zouk Tokyo is packed to the brim with Void equipment, including a custom-coloured Incubus System as the main speaker on the lower floor and Tri Motion as the rear speakers. Elsewhere are numerous Airten V3, Venu 10/8 V2 and Air 8 as fill speakers. For the punchy bass, Venu 215 V2 subwoofers were installed.

There is also a Cirrus 6.1 in the restrooms, ensuring patrons can still enjoy the music while they take a break. 32* Bias amps drive all the speakers.

Deadmau5 and Kaskade Set The Scene in Ginza

Void’s sound system was put through its paces during the opening night, as global superstars Kaskade and deadmau5 launched the venue.

Audiences enjoyed being shaken to their core by the tremendous Incubus system, and the horizontally arrayed subs delivered bass throughout the B2F corridor with aplomb. Those in the VIP rooms enjoyed the atmosphere without losing the intimacy of their private spaces.

Zouk has already become the talk of Tokyo, and the unique sound, lighting and visual combination has elevated the Ginza club into a must-visit venue for Tokyoites and international EDM fans visiting the Japanese capital city.

Tocci said: “Void always delivers, and their helpful team worked closely with us as we overcame the restrictions caused by such a unique space architecturally. This is an exceptional venue that gives Tokyo a premier nightclub while still ensuring Granbell Hotel Ginza can effectively use the space for other audio-led events during the day.

Jun-ichi Arai, Technical Chief at Zouk Tokyo, concluded: “This was the first time we’d dealt with a full Void system, and it has provided us with a system worthy of Zouk Tokyo! The main objective of this installation was to ensure audiences at Zouk Tokyo could still have conversations even with high-pressure sound and Void has helped us achieve this, making our venue the ideal space. Void is highly regarded by our DJs. The sound is almost too good to be true – the highs and mids are crisp and clean, and the Tokyo sound system is perfectly planned and tuned."
